State pension amount: Simple Easy calculation to find out if you get full sum | Personal Finance | Finance

Not everyone who works will have paid National Insurance, as there are certain parameters which determine whether or not someone contributes NI.

Employees must earn more than £184 per week to pay NI, but may still get a qualifying year if they earn between £120 and £184 from one employer.

Those who are self-employed must pay National Insurance contributions if they wish to earn qualifying years.

NI credits are available to people who were not able to work for a variety of reasons, allowing them to still build up their state pension entitlement.
