Royal Family LIVE: Prince Harry hits back at claim book to be released AFTER Queen’s death | Royal | News

Prince Harry memoir ‘will be very explosive’ says commentator

A source has extraordinarily claimed Prince Harry has settled for a multi-title deal which will include his announced memoir, a book to be published after the Queen‘s death, a wellness guide was written by Meghan Markle and a fourth book, the focus of which is yet unknown. However, a representative of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has hit back at this report.

Prince Harry’s response to the source’s claim has been reported by Omid Scobie, the co-author of the Sussexes biography Finding Freedom.

He wrote on Twitter: “A report claiming Prince Harry is holding back a second book (of a multi-title deal) for after the Queen’s death seems to be wide of the mark.

“A Sussex rep says there’s NO project coordinated around such an event, adding that it would be factually inaccurate to suggest otherwise.”

The Daily Mail reported the source making the new claims surrounding Prince Harry’s book deal.

The source, described as “impeccably-placed in the publishing industry”, told the publication Prince Harry led the negotiations for the book deal with a “take it or leave it attitude”.

They continued: “His starting price was $25million (£18million) and the final figure was way north of that, possibly as much as $35-40million (£25-29million).

“Those involved were actually very shocked by his approach, which was to look at them coldly and state his demands – $25million.

“In Britain, publishing is still a rather ‘gentlemanly’ industry.

“It’s high stakes, but is still conducted in very genteel terms.”

The source added: “The final contract was actually for a four-book deal, with Harry writing one ‘when his granny dies’.

“Meghan will write a wellness-type book and people are unsure what the fourth will be.

“But what is most shocking, frankly, is Harry’s suggestion that the second book won’t be published until the Queen is no longer here.

“People [will] start asking ‘what has he got, who is he going to target?’

“The very idea of this unexploded bomb, hanging about waiting for the Queen to pass, is just extraordinary and may strike many as being in very bad taste.”

The Daily Mail reported lawyers acting for Meghan and Harry said the claims made by the newspaper were “false and defamatory”.

Express.co.uk has contacted representatives of the Sussexes for comment.

Prince Harry announced on Monday he is writing an “intimate” memoir covering his whole life, from his childhood to his decade in the Army, from his blossoming relationship with Meghan to becoming a father.

He said: “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man, I have become.

“I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story — the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned — I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.

“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”

After news of the memory broke, a representative of the Sussexes said the Duke had spoken privately to the Royal Family about his memoir “very recently”.

PRINCESS DIANA’s historic gesture at Luciano Pavarotti‘s now famous Hyde Park concert left an indelible mark on the event.

Diana was known to mingle with celebrities at parties and events in London and around the world.

Perhaps one of her most famous appearances came at Luciano Pavarotti‘s now historic concert in Hyde Park.

The tenor gave the performance 30 years ago, with the programme, ‘Pavarotti in Hyde Park’, this evening revisiting the operatic gem.

In what has since been described as a “fairy tale” day, it didn’t start out like that.

Looking back, almost 40 years later, Dickie Arbiter, a royal reporter turned press spokesman for Queen Elizabeth II, said: “To suggest 40 years later he [Charles] never loved Diana is simply not true.”

Writing for 9Honey, Mr Arbiter recalled meeting the couple at Buckingham Palace a week before their big day.

He had expected to arrive alongside other journalists.

Much to his surprise, and after a five-minute wait, the royal correspondent found himself alone with Prince Charles and Lady Diana.

PRINCE HARRY has been criticised for launching a “one-sided tsunami” with plans to write a tell-all royal biography.

Prince Harry’s shock memoir announcement has been picked over by ITV’s royal team in the latest episode of Royal Rota.

ITV News Royal Editor Chris and the podcast’s producer Lizzie Robinson warned that the Royal Family faced yet another “very difficult” and “one-sided” account from the Duke of Sussex.

Ms Robinson likened Harry’s media outings such as the Oprah Winfrey interview and more recently his book deal as a “tsunami” facing the Royal Family.

Mr Ship said: “It is a one-sided account again though isn’t it?

“Because the thing with the Royal Family they themselves don’t write books.

“They themselves don’t do interviews about what has happened within families dynamics.

“It makes this a very difficult one-sided story yet again.”

3.15pm update: Kate and William ‘look at public service in different way’ than Queen

The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William look at public service “in a different way” than the Queen, according to a royal expert.

The new generation of royals appear to have a different take on duties and patronages than the Queen, according to Ian Lloyd.

The expert mentioned Kate, William and Camilla as some of the senior royals showing an interest in issues affecting the country at the moment that were not the focus of the attention of the Royal Family a few decades ago – such as mental health or domestic violence.

On the other hand, the Queen has tended to support more traditional charities and initiatives, such as Barnardo’s, the British Red Cross and the Royal Horticultural Society.

2.40pm update: Prince Charles warned strategy change needed to secure popularity spike in Canada

Prince Charles could enjoy a surge in his popularity if his climate change concerns were better communicated around the world as Canadians and other Commonwealth countries are not as familiar with them as the British public are.

English Lecturer and Victorian History Expert Dr Sarika Bose spoke to Express.co.uk about Prince Charles’ popularity in Canada and discussed the monarchy in transition.

She explained there was much debate about the suitability of Prince Charles versus Prince William as she says many Canadians and others appear to be siding with the younger royal.

The Canadian academic added there was a huge supportive debate about climate change in the country amid several natural disasters and predicted if Charles was able to double down on his climate concerns he could become very popular in Canada.

Dr Bose told Express.co.uk there was a strong and popular climate change movement in Canada that has been spurred on by politicians pushing environmental issues.

She added Canada has also seen devastating wildfires and unexpected heatwaves which have encouraged people to be more environmentally conscious.

Dr Bose was then asked if Prince Charles could essentially capitalise on the concerns by focusing on his environmental work when he ascends the throne and therefore increasing his popularity.

She replied: “It might be [useful] if they knew more about the work he was doing.

“Because it is a very active and robust conversation happening in Canada with specific types of action being taken in local governments.

“I think if more people knew about it there might be more positive reactions.”

Sarah Ferguson has spoken candidly about how ageing has changed her relationship with herself.

The Duchess of York, 61, has opened up about the “wisdom” she has acquired and how she believes “life is ageless”.

Sarah, who enjoys a prolific career as a children’s book writer, is set to release her first novel, titled Her Heart for a Compass, on August 3.

She discussed her upcoming book and the process which led to where she is in life with Telegraph associate editor Camilla Tominey.

The Duchess said: “I have always lived in a children’s world and liked to be a bit different.”

She added: “I believe life is ageless and that’s how I feel most of the time.

“I think what you get from being older is perhaps the wisdom to look at life differently.

“I certainly feel more authentic and sure of myself and where I am going than ever.”

The Queen surprised everyone with her appearance at the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony – including her grandsons Harry and William.

Her Majesty stole the show in a James Bond spoof sketch alongside actor Daniel Craig.

The action-packed scene showed the Queen flying over Central London before a stunt person dressed as the Monarch parachuted into the stadium.

The Queen and Prince Philip then emerged and walked to their seats.

Fans roared as the Monarch and Duke of Edinburgh made the unexpected cinematic appearance.

And a remarkable reaction came from the Queen’s grandsons.

Prince William and Prince Harry are said to have shouted “Go, Granny!”.

11.55am update: Sarah Ferguson breaks silence on Meghan and Harry’s TV interview – ‘Oprah helped me’

Sarah Ferguson touched upon Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey – having sat down for a heartfelt chat with the US journalist herself more than two decades ago.

Sarah, also known by friends and fans as Fergie, declared to be a “great supporter” of Ms Winfrey and her work.

The Duchess of York was asked by royal commentator Camilla Tominey what she made of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s two-hour-long tell-all sit-down with the US journalist.

Fergie declined to share her opinion on the explosive interview, but did show her support for the work of Ms Winfrey.

She told the Telegraph Magazine: “All I want to say on this is that Oprah helped me greatly when I went to the US and was interviewed by her.

“I’m a great supporter of Oprah and everything that she does.”

10.50am update: ‘Her secret weapon’: Queen Elizabeth uses ‘interesting’ treat to beat jet lag

The Queen is believed to have adopted a tasty treat as a way to fight jet lag during her 69-year-long reign.

Her Majesty hasn’t travelled abroad since 2015, but during her life she has visited dozens of countries and toured the Commonwealth several times.

It is reported that Queen Elizabeth is a huge fan of barley sugar, which she consumes in the form of hard-boiled sweets.

And she is thought to believe these sugary treats can help stave off jet lag.

Channel 5 documentary Secrets Of The Royal Flight describes barley sugar as the Queen’s “secret weapon”.

Meanwhile, royal correspondent Emily Andrews said: “Apparently she says that she thinks it can help with jet lag which is an interesting one – I hadn’t heard that one before.”

9.45am update: Meghan Markle and Harry’s Oprah interview ‘cruel towards Queen and horribly self-serving’

Prince Charles‘s biographer hit out at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for their decision to speak to Oprah Winfrey earlier this year.

Jonathan Dimbleby, who wrote ‘Prince of Wales: A Biography’, believes the two-hour-long interview of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry with Ms Winfrey was “undeserved” to the Queen and her family.

And he slammed the tell-all chat as “vicious, cruel and horribly self-serving”.

Speaking at the Buxton International Festival in Derbyshire, Mr Dimbleby also said: “I think that the interview was a very great shame.

“I think it did great damage of a kind that was undeserved to the royal household and specifically to the Queen and her family.”

Speaking about Prince Harry’s comments on Prince Charles and their relationship, Mr Dimbleby said: “Harry’s remarks about his father, I simply fail to understand.

“I think there are certain things you should say and do in private.

“I believe a lot of the insinuations he made were not consistent with fact.”

In his book, Mr Dimbleby reported Prince Charles’s difficult childhood, revealing the Prince of Wales had been bullied at Gordonstoun, the

Scottish boarding school chose by Prince Philip.

The historian also described Prince Charles’s upbringing as lonely, with the Queen depicted as a distant mother and the Duke of Edinburgh as an overbearing father.

Moreover, Mr Dimbleby said Prince Charles felt pressured by the late Duke of Edinburgh to marry Princess Diana – despite not being in love with her.

9.10am update: Harry and Meghan’s possessions ‘cleared out’ of Frogmore Cottage after Duke’s return

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s still had possessions at their home in Windsor, Frogmore Cottage – but they were removed after the Duke’s recent return, it is claimed.

Royal staff packed away items belonging to the Duke and Duchess after Harry jetted back to LA earlier this month, a source said.

They told the Sun: “Staff from Windsor Castle were in Frogmore just days after Harry flew back to California after the statue unveiling.

“They cleared out his personal possessions such as framed pictures he had left behind in his and Meghan’s old bedroom.

“Harry had been staying in one end of the cottage, separated from Eugenie and her family.

“He stayed in his and Meghan’s old bedroom which was left largely untouched since he was last there.”

Prince Harry and Meghan moved to California at the end of March 2020 and a few months later bought a mansion in Santa Barbara.

However, the couple still has Frogmore Cottage as their UK base – and Prince Harry is believed to have stayed there on both his trips to England carried out in 2021.

But he and Meghan are believed to have handed the keys of the property to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.

8.20am update: Queen may strip Harry and Meghan of titles in ‘declaration of war’ – but there’s a catch

The Queen could opt to strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their royal titles if they continue to rock the boat, in what would amount to a “declaration of war”, according to a royal commentator.

However, the expert warned following the news Prince Harry is writing a memoir, a similar move would play into the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’ hands by strengthening the perception of them as victims.

Asked whether the Queen would take drastic action if she felt Harry’s book crossed the line, royal commentator Jonathan Sacerdoti told Express.co.uk: “We can’t, I suppose rule anything out because we don’t know what’s coming next from them

“But I think it will be massively controversial for the Royal Family to do that, and it would be something of a declaration of war on the couple.

“I think it’s highly unlikely – they’ve already had their let’s say royal rights and duties, reduced.”

Mr Sacerdoti pointed out: “The Queen did put up quite a pointed statement when they said that they wanted to try and continue a half life of royal service from America.

“I think that there’s a certain amount that can be done in a certain amount that won’t be done.

“HRH might go out of the window but I think to remove Duke and Duchess, would be an enormous act if the Queen did do it.”
