Donald Trump believes his head would be on Mount Rushmore – if he was a Democrat | World | News

The former President made the remarks in his appearance on a podcast hosted by Dan Bongino. In September, Mr Trump held a campaign rally at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota and claimed the Democrats want to “blow up” the monument.

Mr Trump agreed with avid supporter Mr Bongino that he would be carved into the monument alongside other US leaders.

The monument features George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt.

In response to Mr Bongino saying he would be on the monument if he was a Democrat President, Mr Trump responded: “I know, I know — yeah, I would have.”

Hinting again at a 2024 run Mr Trump said he would likely announce it after the November 2022 congressional midterm elections.

The 74-year-old said: “If I do that — and I am giving it the most serious consideration — I think probably the most appropriate time would be right after the ’22 election. That’s my opinion.

“I could do it sooner, but I think right after the election would be good, especially if you have a good election.

“Now I’m not sure if you didn’t have a good election, I’m not sure that that wouldn’t be good also, if you want to know the truth.”

Mr Trump made an appearance in front of the South Dakota monument last year – a rare rally since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

On July 3, ahead of Independence Day, Mr Trump claimed the Democrats want to destroy the “beautiful” monument.

He said: “If you would see how beautiful this is, it was like this perfect evening. The Sun was setting.

“The faces of these great, great majestic heroes of our country, right. Heroes of our country.

“And they want to blow up Mount Rushmore.”

DON’T MISS…

Since leaving the White House in January. Mr Trump took aim at the Academy Awards for being “politically correct”.

In a statement from his Offiice of the Former President, he said: “What used to be called The Academy Awards, and is now called the ‘Oscars’ – a far less important and elegant name – had the lowest Television Ratings in recorded history, even much lower than last year, which set another record low.

“If they keep up with the current ridiculous formula, it will only get worse – If that’s possible.

“Go back 15 years, look at the formula they then used, change the name back to THE ACADEMY AWARDS, don’t be so politically correct and boring, and do it right.”
