Facebook Adding MORE Restrictions to Election Posts: Report



Big Tech companies are outdoing one another censoring what they deem to be election misinformation.

Twitter censored multiple posts from President Donald Trump between Nov. 4 and Nov. 5, and Facebook has decided to follow its lead. Facebook stepped up its censorship by restricting more posts as well, including some live videos. 

“Facebook said it will now restrict posts on both Instagram and Facebook that its systems flag as misinformation so that they are seen by fewer users. It also is limiting the distribution of election-related live videos on its Facebook platform,” Politico reported.

Facebook also has frozen political ads for the time being. At the beginning of October, Facebook removed a post from Trump, in which he claimed that COVID-19 is less lethal “in most populations” than the “Flu.”

That’s right. As Americans anxiously await for the results of the presidential election, Facebook has decided to restrict even more content that it defines as misinformation. With Facebook now also censoring hashtags like #sharpiegate and #stopthesteal, the nation is left to wonder what Big Tech will censor next. 

“As vote counting continues, we are seeing more reports of inaccurate claims about the election,” said Facebook in a statement to Politico. “While many of these claims have low engagement on our platform, we are taking additional temporary steps, which we’ve previously discussed, to keep this content from reaching more people.”

“Facebook plans to add more ‘friction’ — such as an additional click or two — before people can share posts and other content,” several sources within the company told The New York Times.

The Times summarized the anonymous sources, who suggested that the measures “are a response to heightened strife and social discord on Facebook after the election on Tuesday.”
