Melania Trump and Donald Trump ditch face masks for Halloween event at White House


Melania Trump wore a burnt orange coat as she greeted trick or treaters in Washington yesterday. She was joined at the White House by her husband, President Donald Trump. Both Melania and Donald chose not to wear face coverings. 

The couple stood beneath a large sign which read “Halloween 2020”.

Melania and Donald met with trick or treaters as is tradition in the White House and as they have done each year.

The celebrations were slightly different as coronavirus restrictions meant children picked up their own bags of treats instead of being handed them by the First Lady.

The decided to ditch face coverings and kept a distance from guests at the White House. 

Melania showed off another item from her extensive wardrobe for the occasion.

The former model dressed for Autumn in a rust cocoon coat .

The outfit had long sleeves and oversized orange buttons down the front.

There were large pockets on either side and she wore the look buttoned up to the top.

The loose coat continued down to her knees and had a slight pleat towards the bottom.

The former model styled her highlighted brown hair in her signature loose wave.

She wore a glamorous make-up look with a dark smokey eye and nude lip gloss.

Donald put on a classic white shirt and red tie combination.

He wore a tailored black coat which was buttoned up at the front.

Languages

Mum-of-one Melania can speak more languages than any other First Lady before her: English, French, German, Italian, Serbian and of course her mother tongue, Slovenian.

This also makes her the only First Lady whose first language is not English.

Religion

After Jacqueline Kennedy, Melania is the second First Lady who is a practising Catholic.

She met Pope Francis as part of a foreign tour with her husband and stepdaughter Ivanka.

Career

Melania was a successful model, posing for Sports Illustrated, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and GQ.

Her skills aren’t confined to print, and she appeared in a commercial for Aflac, an American insurance company, in 2005.

Family

Melania’s parents are Amalija Knavs and Viktor Knavs, and the couple live together in Washington.

She has one sister, Ines, who is reported to live in New York and work as an artist.

Charity

On May 7 2018, Melania launched her flagship campaign as First Lady, BE BEST, which The White House describes as “an awareness campaign focused entirely around the well-being of children”.

There are three main strands to the initiative: well-being, social media, and opioid abuse.
