
The new outbreak is linked to a hospital where imported coronavirus cases are being treated. Peeople infected with the disease include hospital staff members, a patient’s relative, and a taxi driver. Qingdao is a major coastal city nearly 435 miles southeast of Beijing.
On October 11, authorities reported six new coronavirus cases and six asymptomatic cases.
Most of the new infectiosn were linked to the Qingdao Chest Hospital.
Since the new cases were confirmed, authorities acted quickly and the local health commission said more than 140,000 employees of “medical institutions, newly admitted patients and personnel” had been tested.
China does not record asymptomatic cases of the deadly pathogen.
The National Health Commission said new cases of coronavirus in the country rose to 32 from 23 on Saturday.
The commission said 29 of these cases involved people returning from overseas.
Qingdao health authorities have placed the Chest Hospital in the city in immediate lockdown.
Buildings where those infected live have also been sealed off in efforts to contain the spread of the disease.
