Another week has passed and journalists are again upset with the Trump/Pence 2020 team for how the two Republicans handled a debate. This time, Chuck Todd hammered Mike Pence for being “evasive” and “deflecting.” Four years ago today, on October 10, 2016, things were exactly the same. NBC’s Todd was horrified when Donald Trump brought Bill Clinton’s sexual accusers to a debate with then-candidate Hillary Clinton.
The journalist huffed, “Only in the, sort of, the mind of some sort of movie writer of a third world democracy or dictatorship would you have a candidate publicly humiliate a former occupant of that office by parading all of these other people around.”
Todd’s horror at women speaking up to tell their stories about the man they are accusing of assault doesn’t exactly play well in a post-Me Too world.
Also four years ago, on October 11, 2016, CBS and NBC hyped a GOP “civil war” and predicted the loss of the House and Senate for the Republicans. How’d that work out for the media?
