Big Tech companies appear to be pulling for a former Vice President Joe Biden victory in November.
“Joining Amazon, Alphabet’s Google and Microsoft are among the top five contributors to Joe Biden’s candidate campaign committee in the 2020 cycle, according to data from OpenSecrets, a website which tracks money in politics and campaign finance records,” noted Reuters.
Affiliates of Alphabet, Inc., Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook and Apple have donated $4,357,885 to the Biden campaign during the 2020 presidential race, according to OpenSecrets. Trump received only $287,549 from aforementioned Big Tech companies.
Reuters also mentioned that “[t]he firms are prohibited by law from donating themselves. The contributions were either made by the company’s political action committees (PACs) themselves, members of the PAC or their employees.”
The disparity in contributions and spending by Big Tech affiliates to Biden over Trump is not surprising. Before the 2018 midterm elections, employees at Twitter, Facebook and Google gave twelve times more to Democrats than Republicans. In a Senate hearing last month, Republican senators raked Google over the coals concerning its censorship policies. Facebook has recently censored the Trump campaign’s ads on its platform. Amazon’s charity program, AmazonSmile, uses the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) to determine which charities are eligible. The SPLC’s “hate map” describes conservative organizations like the Family Research Council (FRC) and the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) as “hate groups.”
MRC president Brent Bozell announced in June that the MRC would no longer accept money from the AmazonSmile program, claiming “any money from Amazon is tainted, hate-filled money that we want nothing to do with.”
