The Duke and Duchess of Sussex weighed in on next month’s presidential election during an interview as part of the TIME 100, the magazine’s annual list of the world’s 100 most influential people. Meghan reiterated her stance on the importance of voting. And Harry declared voters to “reject hate speech” while deciding who to cast their ballot on.

Readers were asked whether they thought Meghan and Harry should campaign in US politics between 10.21am and 9.03pm today.

Out of the 4,833 people who responded, a whopping 4,623 (96 percent) of voters

Only 165 (four percent) believed the couple should step into the political world.

No readers said they did not know.

People were also quick to make their views clear on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new move.

One reader said: “Well they’ve trashed pretty much every other rule with regard to royal traditions and non-party political conventions so why not this!

“I would think Meghan, as an American citizen, is perfectly entitled to cast her ballot in private but to campaign for one party or another is altogether a different matter!”

Another added that they should not get involved with politics while they still have their titles.

Prince Harry also warned about rejecting “online negativity”.

He said: “As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.

“What we consume, what we are exposed to, and what we engage with online, has a real effect on all of us.”

Harry has never voted in the UK due to royal protocol stating members of the Royal Family should not engage with politics.

The royals have never got involved in elections over the years.

Their political allegiances are not known to the public.

Harry added he will not be able to vote in the November election either.

But this is because he is not a US citizen.
