HIDALGO, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge arrested a 25-year-old man, a U.S. citizen who resides in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico after discovering $1,378,000 worth of alleged methamphetamine within the vehicle he was driving.
“Our officers’ excellent inspection skills and observation techniques have allowed us to make this exceptional seizure,” said Carlos Rodriguez, Port Director, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “Smugglers will utilize all kinds of methods in their attempts to bring drugs across the border and it’s up to us to keep up with those trends and help keep our communities safe.”

CBP officers working at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge on Sep. 5, 2020, encountered the Reynosa resident driving a 2011 Dodge Avenger and referred him for further inspection. Utilizing non-intrusive imaging (NII) equipment as part of the secondary examination, officers located a total of 59 packages of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the car.
CBP OFO seized the narcotics, which weighed 69 pounds (31.26 kg) along with the vehicle and arrested the driver, ultimately turning him over to the custody of agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) who continue with the investigation.
